Last Updated on September 21, 2022 by Jack Robertson
A lot of people set up a Restriction passcode on their iPad or iPhone to protect their device from their family changing the device’s settings, or to prevent their children from indulging in having fun with iPhone or iPad. Also, in the recent iOS version, users can use Restriction passcode to set a Downtime, a schedule option that once you set up, only the apps you choose and phone calls will be available to use, which helps prevent users from playing with iPhone/iPad till midnight. This is indeed a considerate function for iOS users.
Well, it becomes a trouble if one forgets the passcode, or worse, you’re a teenager with a restricted iPhone and your parents forgot the Restriction passcode placed on yours. Therefore, I will help you out of that trouble, to tell you how to turn off your Restriction passcode.
What’s Restriction passcode
Restriction passcode is a security feature that enables you to set up a screen time passcode to restrict access to specific contents in your device, like Apps, Settings, purchasing and downloading via iTunes. You can also set Restriction passcode on your child’s device to prevent your child from indulging in phones.
But it will be a lot disturbing if you have forgotten your screen time passcode, because you cannot access the limited contents anymore. Want to regain access to these contents, you need to recall your passcode or remove it. If you cannot recall it, here are some helpful methods for you to turn off your screen time passcode.
Method 1: Turn off Restriction passcode by Apple ID and password
You can use your Apple ID and password to turn off the Restriction passcode, you can go to Settings > Screen Time > Change Screen Time Passcode > Turn off Screen Time Passcode, and tap the option Forget Passcode, you need to enter your Apple ID and password to turn off the Restriction passcode.
Method 2: Remove your Restriction passcode via iTunes
If you forget your password, you have to reset your iPhone. Resetting your iPhone means to totally erase all the contents including the Restriction passcode, so you can remove the Restriction passcode by resetting your device. To reset your iPhone and get rid of the passcode, we need help from some software.
iTunes is the tool that we could use to reset the iPhone or iPad. Follow these steps.
Step 1: Launch iTunes and connect your device to PC
Step 2: Locate your iPhone
On the interface, look at the left list, find Devices, and click on the icon of your device.
Step 3: Restore your device
Go to Summary, and click Restore iPhone/iPad to reset your device. Enter your Apple ID and password to proceed. If Find My iPhone is ON, iTunes cannot reset your device and erase the Restriction passcode.
When the erasing is done, the Restriction passcode will be erased, you can set up a new one if you like.
Method 3 Regain/Reset your Restriction passcode via iPhone Unlocker
It might bother you that all the data will be gone while using iTunes to remove the passcode. You might wonder if there’s a way that can keep your data safe and meanwhile reset your screen time passcode. And here it is, Aiseesoft iPhone Unlocker. Here’re two notes for you to use iPhone Unlocker to reset your Restriction passcode.
- The latest iTunes needs to be installed on your PC to do a normal and secure scan.
- Find My iPhone/iPad should be disabled first.
If the two conditions are met, let’s get to know how it works.
Step 1 Download and launch iPhone Unlocker on your PC
Step 2 Connect your device to PC with a USB cable
Make sure the connection is stable for the whole time.
Step 3 Choose Screen Time mode
There’ re 3 options on the main interface, choose Screen Time. Click Start.
After clicking Start, if your iPhone/iPad is running with :
iOS 16 or earlier versions
The program will start to remove the Restriction passcode, and a few moments later, the Restriction passcode will be removed, your device will enter a re-setup process.
During the process, to make sure that the Restriction passcode is totally erased, and your data won’t be lost, you need to make 2 very important choices.
During the re-setup process:
- In Apps & Data section, you need to tap Don’t transfer Apps & Data on your device, because iPhone Unlocker will transfer the data back to your device. If you choose to restore from iCloud or iTunes backup, the backup files will replace iPhone Unlocker’s transfer, which causes data loss.
- In Screen Time section, tap Set Up Later in Settings, so, when you finish resetting up your device, no Restriction passcode will be required to enter.
Or, your iPhone is running iOS 16 or earlier, you are likely to retrieve your screen time passcode. But it needs one necessary condition, you have backed up your device in iTunes without encrypting it. If you haven’t backed up your iPhone, go and back up now, do not encrypt it.
If the iTunes backup isn’t encrypted, after clicking Start on this software, the software will get to retrieve your forgotten Restriction passcode in a few minutes. You can reset your Restriction passcode or you could just use this. Try not to forget it this time. If you want to turn off Restriction passcode, go to Settings > Screen Time > Change Screen Time Passcode > Turn off Screen Time Passcode, you can turn it off by entering the regained passcode.
This is what iPhone Unlocker is capable of. It can not only help your remove your Restriction passcode but also keep your data safe. It takes only a few steps to achieve that goal. If you want to get rid of your forgotten Restriction passcode, try iPhone Unlocker.
