Recover Txt File

How to regain the lost files? Do you want to know the answers? In the next part of this article, we will give you 2 ways to do data recovery which are based on many tests. You can see the details in the Part 3.

Part 1 we need to figure out what text document is.

Text document contains plain text, or programming code .txt is the extension used by some text editors like Notepad, Edit Plus, and Word Pad.

Part 2 you may encounter the following situations.

  • Unable to open a text document and even restart the computer after multiple attempts
  • The text document name or the path becomes invalid
  • Forgot to save the text document when you shut down the computer
  • Lost some important documents after severe virus or malware attacks on the system
  • The computer is powered off during the process of saving the text document

Are you trouble with similar issues? Do you want to do data recovery like the questioner Aaron? Now, let’s move to Part 3.

Part 3 two ways to recover the deleted/damaged .txt files.

If you just simply deleted the text files, you may have the chance to recover them from the recycle bin.

If you deleted the text files by using the Shift + Delete keyboard combination or emptied the recycle bin, then recycle bin is no longer a rescue method.

Though suffering from all the situations above, we still have the chance to get our data back safely. In fact, the deleted/unsaved/damaged text files weren’t erased immediately from the computer. The computer still keeps space free for them, it just removes the text file’s name from the index table. However, if the empty space is overwritten, the chance of regaining the text files will be reduced. So, I advise you against doing anything on the empty space.

Way 1 recover .txt from the computer

Step 1: Go to Start and type C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming in the search bar and click Enter.

Tip: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming is the system default path. If your user name is Peter, then you need to change Administrator to Peter. For example, C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming.

Step 2: Please locate on Roaming folder, and then type the .txt or the name of the deleted/unsaved text document at the top-right search bar. You will see lots of results, select the file you needed with the latest date and copy it to the desktop.

By the way, if you want to recover Microsoft Word, you just need to do Step 3.

Step 3: In Roaming folder, type the .asd or .tmp or the name of the deleted/unsaved Word file at the search bar, and then select the word file you needed with the latest date and copy it to the desktop. Double-click the word file on the desktop, you will find that it cannot be opened. We just need to change the filename extension from .asd or .tmp to .docx.

What are .asd, .tmp and .docx?

  • Microsoft Word creates professional as well as informal documents such as memos, reports, letters, term papers, etc., which contain graphs, charts, formatted texts, images, tables, print settings and page formatting. The word file is saved in the file format .doc or .docx.
  • .asd and .tmp (temporary files) are files created to temporarily contain information while a new file is being made in Microsoft Word.

Way 2 revamp lost .txt and .doc with third-party tool

If you still haven’t solved the problem with Way1. You can try this tool: Data Recovery. It is an ultimate tool that recovers corrupted Microsoft Word and text document from both external and internal hard drives like XD cards, USB drives, fire Wire Drives, Flash memory cards, SD cards, etc.

Let’s see how it works.

Step 1 Free download this software on the computer and then run it.

Win Download Mac Download Win Download Mac Download

Step 2 Open the software, you can see file types: Image, Audio, Video, Email, Document, Others, we should choose Document, and then pick up the hard disk drive, finally click the Scan button.

Step 3 Wait for serval minutes, all files will be listed on the left sidebar, select the files you need. Finally, click Recover button.

Compared to Way 1, Data Recovery is more useful. On the one hand, it can recover different kinds of data, such as Word, Excel, PPT, photo, video, music, etc. On the other hand, it retrieves data from Xbox One/360, USB drive, XD cards, fire Wire Drives, Flash memory cards, SD cards, etc.
