Effective Ways on How to Block Porn on Safari for iOS Devices
As a computer science teacher, my students have always been my number one priority; I have to provide them with all those skills they will need to succeed in life and make sure that they get the guidance they need throughout their student life.
But this is not the end of my duties as a teacher. I also have to make sure that my students are sheltered from bad influences and habits like smoking, drinking, and the plague of our modern times; porn. And this is twice as important in my field since students get access to computers during my classes.
This part of my duties got through to me when we got new iMacs for my class. There was no child monitoring system in place and the school had very little funding to buy one. So, I had to find a way to block porn and other adult content on Safari the internet browser iMacs have by default.
In this article, I will give you an account of how I managed to block pornography on Safary and iMac. Read on, and you will find something for yourself too.

Blocking Porn on Safari

Method 1: Block Adult Content on Safari with Screen Time
Screen Time is Apple's own monitoring app. It can be found on Apple devices running on macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, or iOS 15 or higher for iPad and iPhone, and it allows you to keep track of how much time you spend on screen. But this is not the only thing it can do.
One of Screen Time's capabilities, involves the ability to set reminders so as to limit app and internet usage and even completely block adult content.
This is the feature we will be using:
- Click the Apple icon on your Mac.
- Then, go to System Preferences - Screen Time - Options.
- There, click Turn On and then Content & Privacy.
- After that, click on Content & Privacy and then enable Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Select Limit Adult Websites in the Web Content options.

- Go back to Options check the Use Screen Time Passcode checkbox.
- Set a passcode to prevent others from removing the restrictions.

Method 2: Block Porn on Safari with Parental Controls
If you have an earlier Mac version, (macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier) Parental controls is the tool you will have to use. It is the one with which people have been controlling their children's internet usage ever since access to the internet became this easy. It is very easy to set up, as you will see below, and covers our needs perfectly, especially if it is combined with some work on the part of the parent. However, given the fact that it is the most popular child monitoring method, it is also the one that is the easiest to circumvent.
What we will do with Parental controls is to access to adult sites and restrict internet usage.
Here's how we will do that.
- Go to System Preferences - Users & Groups.
- Click on the lock icon and click Unlock after entering your password.
- Add a new user by clicking the plus symbol and select Managed with Parental Controls from the drop-down menu.
- Then, set an age range and a name for the user account.
- Set up a password and click on Create User.
- After this, choose the user you have just created, click on Enable parental controls and click on Open Parental Controls.
- You will see a new interface. There go to the Web tab, find Browser Restrictions, and select Try to limit access to adult websites.
- You can create your own list of porn websites you want to block by clicking on the Customise button.
Method 3: How to Block Porn on Safari via mSpy
The methods I mentioned above worked fine for the first few days. But you know children. They will always try to do the one thing that you put off-limits. And things can get especially hard to manage when you have twenty of them at the same time.
I needed a tool that would help me block porn access on twenty computers at the same time. One that could not be circumvented and, preferably, one that would let me monitor all my students remotely. This is why I opted for mSpy. It let me do all the things mentioned above and much more!
To be precise, mSpy:
- Lets you check the photos and videos on any device. So that you can see what your students are downloading. And it works even for encrypted files that would normally be undetectable even by parental controls

- Helps you check one's browser history. Even with the strongest blocking mechanisms on the market, it never hurts to check what sites your students are visiting.

- Block access to entire websites. You can completely block off all popular porn sites.
- And even block Wi-Fi access if you think that you have had enough and want to just pull the switch.

- Subscribe to mSpy.
- Go to the Dashboard. From there you can see an overview of the online activity on the target device, including messages and web searches.
- Then, go to Keylogger. Keylogger lets you see all the things they have typed on any website or app.
- After that, you can use the Keyword tracking tab to search all the keywords you would not want them to type in such as "porn".

- The next thing you may see is their web history under Browser History. Also, you can see pages they have bookmarked on the Browser Bookmark tab.
- Last, if you find a website you do not like the look of, you can block it through the Block Websites tab. Just type in the URL at the bottom and click on the Block button.
Tip
If you want to cover all bases, you need to make sure that your students are not looking at porn anywhere. You can discuss about routers with parental controls with their parents.

Conclusion
Porn is a plague. A plague that, thanks to modern technology, has been able to target even the most vulnerable audiences; teenagers and young adults. This is why we need to be twice as vigilant and always try to protect our children. In this article, we have discussed some methods you can use to block pornography on Safari. And despite the fact this guide is for Safari, it doesn't mean that you can't use the same principles on other brands too.
